Who is God?

Read the following descriptions of God.

  1. God is an American idol judge: He always tells me what I need to work on.
  2. God is Santa Clause: He answers my prayers exactly like I ask.
  3. God is a hidden video camera: He sees everything and knows everything
  4. God is the President: Watches over me, but not really involved in my daily life
  5. God is my best friend: He’s always there for me, but not really in control of my life

Circle the one that sometimes describes how you see God (We know they are all wrong).

Why does it matter what you think about God?

Where do you go to learn about God?

Teachers?

The Bible?

Church?

Friends?

Parents?

Your choice to be here means that you care about knowing Him more.

What is one new thing you have learned about God so far?

Read Jeremiah 32:17-21

Dear God, my Master, you created earth and sky by your great power—by merely stretching out your arm! There is nothing you can’t do. You’re loyal in your steadfast love to thousands upon thousands…Great and powerful God, named God-of-the-Angel-Armies, determined in purpose and relentless in following through, you see everything that men and women do and respond appropriately to the way they live, to the things they do. You performed signs and wonders in the country of Egypt and continue to do so right into the present…You’ve made a reputation for yourself that doesn’t diminish.

What qualities about God stand out to Jeremiah?

Read Psalm 32:5

What qualities about God stand out to the Psalmist?

Read Psalm 119: 52; 58

The “ancient laws” in vs. 52 mean the Word of God, or The Bible.

How is studying God’s word directly related to seeking his face?

How do you want God to redefine Himself for you?

Write a one sentence prayer asking God to give you an encounter with Him that will impact your life when you go home.
